Councillor expresses concern over failure
of Govt to control jhum cultivation
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The Councillor of ward no. 24 Lishi Yapu has expressed serious concern over failure of government to control jhum cultivation around capital complex. Citing example of the unfortunate death of one Tam Kadu, GMP of Potte village who died in a fire accident while clearing his jhum field, Yapu stated that jhum cultivation posed threat to human life.
While expressing sadness over incident, she appealed to citizen of capital and also nearby areas to take alternative way of cultivation in the state in consultation with the concerned department. Further she called upon state government to take note of forest fire around capital complex caused due to jhum cultivation and urged govt. to take drastic measures in this regard.

ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The wife, children and father of Late Mathew Dabi, who died recently while on poll duty, met the Deputy Commissioner, Nidhi Srivastav and SP, East Siang yesterday to give a first hand account of their grievances. GWS demands thorough inquiry into poll official’s death
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: While expressing shock and grief over unfortunate and mysterious death of polling official Mathew Dabi, the Galo Welfare Society (GWS) has urged the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh and the Election Commission to unearth the truth and circumstances that led to his death.
“If an unnatural death is proved then stringent punishment must be awarded to the culprits so that this kind of incident does not recur,” GWS stated in a release.
The Society appealed to both the State Government and Election Commission of India for providing relief to the victim's family as per norms and guidelines since Dabi has lost his life while discharging election duty.
Ering to seek relief from Centre for fire victims
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering, in a release, informed that he will request the Union Home Minister and AICC President Sonia Gandhi for providing more relief to the fire victims of Wakka.
“I am very sad to learn that 30 houses were gutted and a lot of people have lost their properties in the fire at Wakka recently,” said Ering.
“I pray that God will be with the affected families during this difficult time and grant them fortitude to bear their losses,” he added.
Councilor urges for water refill points at each ward
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Claiming that a devastating fire at about 1:30 pm yesterday gutted down five residences and various plantation included Bamboo plantation, PHE store cum enquiry office and a piggery farm at horticulture downside under ward no. 2, Councilor, Itanagar Municipal Council, Tatung Tania has urged for setting up separate water refill points at each ward for proper functioning of the fire tenders during emergency.
To refill the requirement, the fire tenders have to go back to the main source which takes up much time, said Tania in a release.
AAPWU urges DA for early arrest of the miscreant
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Claiming that the women wing president of All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union (AAPWU) Miao Block Bidya Pertin (Borah) succumbed to her injuries today at about 1am after she was hit by an unknown biker on April 11 last, AAPWU has urged upon Changlang district administration for early arrest of the person responsible and for awarding him exemplary punishment as per law.
It further offered condolence to the bereaved family members of late Pertin and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Gumkum Gumpa festival celebrated
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The Puroik Community under Chayang Tajo Sub Division of East Kameng district celebrated Gumkum Gumpa festival with much pomp and gaiety from April 12 to 15 last.

Unchecked hike in Sumo fare causes hardship to the poor & needy

DAPORIJO, Apr 22: A fare hike on every special occasion by daily Tata Sumo service providers from Daporijo to Itanagar has become a regular practice.
Recently, they had exorbitantly hiked the Sumo fare from Rs.700 to Rs.1500 during election period. However, the fare was again brought down to Rs.750 from Rs.1500 after All Tagin Students’ Union intervened the matter.
The fare was illegally and unauthorizedly increased by the Sumo counters, said Raju Malling, president, All Tagin Students’ Union. He cautioned them to refrain from such illegal practice. Otherwise the union will lodge complaint with the administration against them.
This kind of sudden and unchecked hike in Sumo fare mostly cause hardship to the poor and students community, he said.
ATSU also appealed to district administration to fix a reasonable and acceptable fare for Sumo service between Daporijo and Itanagar and take necessary legal action against those who indulge in such illegal practice.

APST surpasses past record of revenue collection

ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Much to its delight, the Arunachal Pradesh State Transport (APST)

The APST is one of the leading Govt agency/department in the state in generating revenue and has been consistently contributing in the state exchequer since its inception.
Speaking to this daily General Manager divulged that factors leading to the successful record revenue collection were timely availability of tyres, tubes, spares & POL was one of the factors.
Appreciating the efforts of field officers contribution in revenue collection, Tayeng also credited it to hard work & dedication of the officers and the field staffs. It said that some stations have even exceeded the revenue target. If funds were released by the Govt quarterly, the revenue generation would receive a fillip, he opined.
The APST sources also disclosed that the district administrations (deputy commissioners) and Police authorities (superintendents of police) in the district have outstanding dues of Rs 1 crore & 18 lakh revenue as hiring charges of vehicles. The postal department also owes Rs. 35 lakhs as carriage charges to the state transport. The revenue could have been increased to more than 17 crore if the outstanding dues are paid timely, sources added.
Currently the department is operating 196 vehicles across the state. However few of them are off the road for maintenances.
It is said that if the number of buses are increased in a phased manner much more revenue can be generated. The transport department requires 20 vehicles every year. “More vehicles, more routes to operate and revenue will definitely increase” said a staff.

BJP urges EC for strict monitoring of counting process
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the Election Commission of India to ensure that no forged and false postal ballot papers are counted during counting of votes. The party further demanded proper surveillance and strict monitoring of all the strong rooms in the state.

East Kameng reviews law and order
SEPPA, Apr 22: The East Kameng District Administration has reviewed the law and order situation in Seppa township and the district as a whole in a review meeting held here yesterday.
Besides Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, all administrative officers from headquarters and outpost, town magistrates, OC, CRPF and OC, PS, Seppa attended the meeting.
While explaining the purpose of convening such meeting, the DC said that the meeting was to review the law and order situation and particularly the prevailing situation within the jurisdiction of Bameng, Chayangtajo and Seijosa.
He enquired Seijosa ADC about the forest fire occurred recently at Seijosa and also boundary situation at Nomora, Digalmukh etc. He instructed the OC, PS Seppa to register a case under Sec. 107 CrPC against those persons who had allegedly involved in poll violence including destruction of EVMs and complete the investigation soon.
Talking about the encroachment of Govt. land, he said that no new structures should come up within notified area other than land already allotted to individuals and directed the departments to pursue the allotment of their office premises or land under their occupation as soon as possible.
Further, he instructed the tax and excise superintendent for strict monitoring of liquor by conducting surprise checking.
Seijosa ADC T R Tapu informed that forest fire broke out recently at Seijosa for which every effort were made to put an end having instructed the forest ranger officer to laised with IRBN stationed at Seijosa if necessary. Armies of India, China discuss implementation of border pacts
New Delhi, Apr 22: Against the backdrop of incidents of incursions by Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), armies of Indiaand China today discussed the implementation of border pacts to maintain peace and tranquility along the international boundary.
The Chinese delegation was led by People's Liberation Army's Deputy Chief of General Staff (Operations) Lt Gen Qi Jianguo, while the Indian side was led by Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen P R Kumar and Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Dalbir Suhag.
"The two sides exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest such as maintenance of peace and tranquility along the LAC and enhancing mutual cooperation and understanding between the armies. Measures for implementation of existing bilateral agreements were also discussed," an Army release said here.

The two sides agreed on holding the fourth round of joint exercise in November this year in India.
The Chinese side also confirmed the visit of its Defence Minister Gen Chang Wanquan to India later this year.

Great sacrifice
Dear Editor,
Death of late Matthew Dabi during polling duty shows his dedication, loyalty, truthfulness and courage to carry out the duty. He has sacrificed his life for the sake of law. I urge state government to book his murderers at the earliest and at the same time to declare April 9, the day he went missing as state holiday and name it as Karamveer day. This day should be recorded in the history of Arunachal Pradesh in red letters. His sacrifice would encourage each and every officials of our state to carry out their duty with dedication, efficiency and without fear. Every time an official is threatened they should remember the sacrifice made by late Matthew Dabi for the sake of his duty.

Wrong precedent set during election at East Kameng
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to share my experience regarding conduction of assembly election in East Kameng District. In any country, democratic election is the most powerful weapon given to the common citizen to enjoy their freedom to exercise adult franchise. Election is the medium to choose good leader who can deliver good governance and development in their area. But in this election I saw kind of strange nature of people during election campaign at East Kameng district.
There is no any feeling for need to “choose good leader for the development of area.” Everyone goes for their individual affairs; no one is ready to vote for development of their village or area. In whole world including in rest of the India, election is fought on basis of issues or agenda of the political party or on the basis of strength of leadership of political party who can deliver good governance. But in East Kameng this meaning has totally changed, people don’t need any issue or agenda for development and there is no willingness to elect good leaders who can deliver good governance and development. And most strange thing in this election was that everyone wanted mortgage and agreement for each individual, no one ever talked about the development of their village or area, no one spoke about the road, water supply, schools which are the utmost essential for any village or area. Everyone goes for individual concern, even the officers and highly educated citizens are practicing this system of mortgaging. From this experience, I feel that anyone can become leader in East Kameng who is having bank balance and local ornament, no matter whether he is uneducated, fool, blind, abnormal, murderer etc. There is no scope for any sincere and good leaders who can deliver better development. There is no meaning of good leaders and good vision, only the money matters. After witnessing recent election, now I can really say that money does indeed speak. If this kind of precedent continues then there will be no any development in the East Kameng and we will surely go back to those nomadic lives again. The officers and intellectuals of East Kameng should learn a lesson from innocent villagers of Sissen village under East Siang district, who boycotted election demanding infrastructure development of the area. If people of East Kameng continue same kind of practice in every election, then how can we expect better development from our leaders even though they are elected?

Communal agenda should be
avoided by political parties
The parliament election 2014 has exposed the real face of various politicians and political parties. Many of them who pretend to be secular in public has altogether different avatar in real life. A new controversial video which is going viral shows Shazia llmi, Aam Admi Party candidate from Ghaziabad seat urging Muslim to be less secular and bit communal for the benefit of the community. For many this video is a shocking revelation, because AAP has always prided itself for being different from traditional political parties like Congress, BJP, SP who are consider to have hidden communal agenda.
This election has witnessed many communally sensitive statements from politicians which for sure has dampened the spirit of democracy. Leaders like Shazia llmi, Amit Shah, Azam Khan and Giriraj Singh is blot on secular credential of this great country. VHP leader Praveen Togadia also made controversial hate speech in the mid of election at Ahmedabad on Saturday, where he targeted Muslims buying properties in Hindu areas urging his supporters to forcibly evict them. Though election commission has asked for an FIR be lodged against him, however till now no action has been taken against Mr Togadia. It is a well known fact that VHP backs BJP and therefore onus lies on BJP to control their hate activity. The political parties and politicians need to understand that election comes and goes but damage caused to social fabric of society due to such campaigns can have devastating effect on country.
